Tremont Treks
Tennis, anyone? Mark Platt is serving up tennis instruction for students in grades 1-12 at Bernard and Oakville middle schools.
Platt is a dedicated tennis professional who tirelessly gives back to the community in efforts to make the sport of tennis accessible to beginning players of all ages. In 1993, he began the Playground Tennis Program in U. City’s parks, a program so successful it has spread to other communities. If children can not afford to participate, Platt provides them scholarships and equipment. He is best known for Beginner’s World Tennis, which he founded in 1984. It has introduced tens of thousands of adults and children in the St. Louis area to tennis. In 1991, Tennis Buyers Guide named Platt one of the Top Five Tennis Teachers in the U.S. He was selected in 2002 as one of the 50 USA Tennis All-Americans and has won Tennis Industry magazine’s Grassroots Champion of the Year Award. In 2003, he was presented the TIA/PTR Commitment to the Industry Award, which acknowledges his dedication to the community.
