Mehlville School District Community Education

No matter how long it's been, you're invited to make music with one of our Community Band courses! 

New in 2025! Community Jazz Band, led by Mr. Scott Dickman. This new ensemble opportunity is for adult musicians, ages 14 and over, and will focus on the big band sounds of saxophones, trumpets, trombone and percussion. Experience with your chosen instrument is preferred. 

The beginner and intermediate community bands are led by director, Jennifer Garrison Brown. Some experience with the following instruments is preferred for Community Band: bassoon, clarinet, euphonium, flute, French horn, oboe, percussion, saxophone, trombone, tuba or trumpet. When offered, Beginner Band is ideal for students (ages 12+) and adults interested in trying a new instrument. 

All Community Band participants are asked to provide their own instrument. If you no longer have an instrument, please contact the course instructor for help locating an instrument. Nottelmann Music Company (314) 631-1486 also has an excellent instrument rental program. 

Live performances, showcasing the talents of our community musicians, have quickly become a beloved district-wide tradition. Each session typically culminates with a public performance opportunity to showcase the combined talents of our community musicians.
